the Q

ever since we found out i'm expecting, i am making conscious effort to NOT ASK others when it's gonna be their turn to have a baby. simply because, when i wasn't pregnant yet, that question makes me (us, actually, dahil pati si je tinatanong) feel obliged to reply, even if i know it's just a mindless question to let the conversation continue.

i think i am doing good so far. when we broke the news to friends, i probably made a slip once or twice. other than that, i'm cool.

so after the "when are you gonna have a baby?" question, we are now dealing with a new set of questions. here's a list of some of them, and what i sometimes have in mind as my reply:

When's your due date?
Real Answer:         Dec 16
Pseudo Answer#1: Why, are you gonna be at the hospital on that day?
Pseudo Answer#2: Please don't count back on when we did it.

Do you want a boy or a girl?
Real Answer:          Kahit boy or girl, basta healthy. Pero mas leaning towards girl ako.
Pseudo Answer#1: Gay. Kasi we can't decide what we want.
Pseudo Answer#2: Kahit ano, basta healthy, at basta boy.

Have you thought of a name yet?
Real Answer:          We'll wait until we know the gender before we start exploring options.
Pseudo Answer#1: Right now we call it "pistoy". If we get too busy, we just might call it that.
Pseudo Answer#2: Yeah. we'll name it "bright light", or "lab gown", or "white mask". We want to keep Native American traditions alive.

Are you going to breastfeed?
Real Answer:          Yes.
Pseudo Answer#1: No, we decided we'll give me a break and let je do it.
Pseudo Answer#2: What, and have to buy a gallon for cereal? We're using the milk for more practical reasons.

How many kids do you want?
Real Answer:          Let's get through this one first, then ask me again.
Pseudo Answer#1: What kids?
Pseudo Answer#2: Just one from me. We'll just grab a couple more from the nursery before we head home. I'm sure they won't notice.
