love at first sight

as i mentioned, je and i went back to the doc's office the next day to get my first ultrasound. ok fine, we won't get any services from the doc's office unless we sign that agreement. i just have to have faith that my ob(s) won't mess up anything, like leaving a scalpel or cotton or a gauze inside me pag nagdeliver na ko. hehe!

the nurse who's manning the ultrasound machine is very friendly. she asked if it's our first and she beamed when we told her it is. i'm so glad the medical staff is not jaded. i mean, they see pregnant women every day. they've probably seen it all. but they are excited for us, and they seem genuinely happy when they congratulate us. it's nice. =) just little things that you may tend to overlook, but are priceless.

the dreadful (but surprisingly not cold!) gel on my tummy, and a few strokes here and there, and i was told i have a retroverted(?) uterus. meaning, nakabaligtad. i was worried instantly, but the nurse said it's ok and won't hurt the baby. "it's just the way you're made". huh? she pacified my worries that some women are like that, and it's perfectly normal. ok, whatever, as long as the baby's gonna be fine in my retroverted uterus chuva.

so, transvaginal ultrasound it is. please don't make me elaborate. =P

a few pokes here and there, and then we saw him/her.

he/she is floating in that little space of black on the monitor. i didn't know what to make of it at first. i even thought i was looking at a cyst or something. (stupid me!)

then the nurse pointed at the head, and at a little fluttering movement... "that's the heart beating!".

it was instant euphoria. we created life! this is our little miracle. a physical manifestation of our love for each other! it's amazing, and it's our baby! =)

as je looks at the beating heart, he lets out an expression that's somewhere between a gasp and an excited, almost shrieking exclamation of wonder. my heart was beating so fast too. i was concentrating on calming myself coz i thought i was causing the very fast heartbeat, that i missed what he said. haha! it turns out, the nurse was reading my mind. she said it's normal for a fetus to have fast heartbeat because it is still working hard to building everything. *sigh of relief again*

it's such a special moment. i never thought looking at a monitor can be that fun. hehe! even before that experience ended, i wanted to schedule another ultrasound to see our baby again! =)

the nurse then proceeded with her business. measuring the baby's length. looking around my uterus and what feels like my entire insides. she poked and poked and took snapshots. then she went back to the baby, and did a snapshot of Baby Ignacio's first picture:

it's love at first sight. =)
